Vid Kids /4H Glasgow / Frazer School
(Montana)
Ninety-nine percent of students at the Frazer School
on the Ft. Peck Indian reservation in rural Montana belong to the Assiniboine
and Sioux tribes. We are proud of our heritage, and all the things that
make us members of these unique Indian nations. An important part of
our culture is the value placed on family -- our ancestors knew that
family relationships were sacred and they honored them. This heritage
carries into our school which is the cultural center of our community.
At school, we truly are one "family," with most of us related by blood
or extended family. This creates a strong sense of trust and support
in our school environment, which affects the way we treat each other.
Unlike many schools, there are no cliques on our campus and no student
is left out. While we face many of the difficulties and challenges of
a rural reservation, we will trace the importance of our school and
its role in the preservation of our culture. (Eric Berg acted asYouth
Technical Advisor)

"Mr. Raymond, Our Favorite Teacher: A Scientific Inquiry"
These science students build cars, construct seismographs and make volcanoes
that overflow with molten lava. They study earth science, biology, physics,
mechanics, chemistry and have so much fun that when asked who was their
favorite teacher, the unanimous reply is: "Mr. Raymond." We discover
that Mr. Raymond's teaching drive spawns from his passion, hands-on
learning method and teaching career.
