UNDOCUMENTED: People Without Papers

The Bresee Community Center is sponsoring a film contest for all Los Angeles area high school students. The theme is Undocumented: People Without Papers. The purpose of the contest/festival is to educate youth and adults about the obstacles and challeges facing people in our community who do not possess proper immigration papers. We have an esteemed panel of judges to evaluate the films and several great prizes to award winners, including video camcorders. The deadline is April 28, 2006.

1 Youth between the ages 14 to 19 only may submit.
2 Only Los Angeles City and County residents may submit.
3 The films must be created, filmed and edited by youth. Adults can be involved only as advisors, instructors or mentors.
4 The maximum length allowed is fifteen minutes. There is no minimum length.
5 Your submission must be postmarked or delivered to the Bresee Community Center by April 28, 2006.
6 Winners to be announced and awards given at a screening on May 18, 2006.
7 The submission must address the theme “Stories of people without documents in Southern California.”
8 The film can take any style, from P.S.A. narrative fiction, music video, documentary or experimental.
9 “Undocumented” or “people without papers” is understood to mean anyone residing in the United States of America without legal citizenship or naturalization papers, Social Security Card, U.S. birth certificate or legal or unexpired visas.
10 PRIVACY: We understand that undocumented persons may not wish to use their actual voices or faces in these films, therefore, the filmmakers may need to use creative means in which to disguise the identities of their subjects.
11 DVD is the preferred submission format but miniDV will also be accepted. Please send two (2) copies of your submission. Label all submissions with applicant’s name and phone number.
